DIY-Do It Yourself® Uganda aims to demystify TVET, make it accessible, and promote a DIY culture. It supports government programs like Skilling Uganda and the evolving secondary school curricula by National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) of Uganda.
To support the government effort to ensure that Ugandans have practical skills that enable them to created jobs, get employment or be self-employed as a means of increasing their standard of living.
To be the leading hub for hands-on skills training, empowering individuals with practical knowledge to foster self-reliance, innovation, and a strong DIY culture in Uganda and beyond.
DIY-Do It Yourself® Uganda (DIY Uganda) is a project that has since 2019 conducted the
innovative DIY-Do It Yourself® Skills Training Programme (DIY) under the Eastern and Southern
Africa Capacity Building Centre (ESACBC) Uganda. The DIY Do It Yourself Skills Training Programme
is a non-formal innovative 90% hands-on technical skills training programme for all interested
people, irrespective of their education, financial, social, age, gender, or ability status with the.
10% of the training is through observation and demonstration videos and less emphasis is put on
prior education certificates but rather on willingness of a person to do hands-on work.
The main objective of the DIY-Do It Yourself® Skills Training Programme is to conduct short duration
courses that equip all categories of people with basic hands-on technical skills that enable them to
do practical projects themselves at home, at school and in their day to day life. The mission of
DIY-Do It Yourself® Uganda is to demystify Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET), make
it more accessible to the public and promote a DIY culture. It also complements the programmes by the
Government such as skilling Uganda, the New Curriculum for Lower Secondary School in Uganda and the
proposed New Curriculum for Upper Secondary School in Uganda being developed by the National Curriculum
Development Centre (NCDC) of Uganda. In support of the New Curriculum for Lower Secondary School in
Uganda, DIY-Do It Yourself® Uganda has been conducting on-campus DIY-Do It Yourself® Skills Training at
Namilyango College and St. Maria Goretti Senior Secondary School- Katende.
The major skills of focus are Coding, Electronics and Robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI),
Electricity and Solar, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Building Construction, Wood Work (carpentry), Plumbing,
Welding and Fabrication and Machining of metal parts. Other tailor made courses are arranged on demand.
